PERFORMING ENSEMBLES

 

Symphonic Band (Advanced Band)

The Symphonic Band is the advanced instrumental ensemble at La Loma Jr. High School.  Students in this group must have a minimum of 2-3 years playing experience.  Requirements include playing all 12 major scales from memory, performance of common rhythmic patterns and a general knowledge of basic musical concepts/theory.  Symphonic Band performances include two major concerts (fall & spring), CMEA Concert Band Festivals and an elementary school tour in May (4-6 performances/year).  For past Symphonic Band repertoire click here.

 

Beginning Band

The Beginning Band is comprised of 1st year band students that are just learning to play their instrument. On occasion, Beginning Band students that demonstrate above average abilities by the end of the first semester, may be promoted into the Symphonic Band.  Symphonic Band students that are learning a secondary instrument are also enrolled in Beginning Band.

 

Jazz Band

The La Loma Jazz Band is comprised of members of the Symphonic Band.  The Jazz Band meets twice a week on Mondays & Wednesdays after school.  The group is complimented with saxophones (clarinets, flutes) trombones, trumpets & full rhythm section (bass, piano, drums & guitar)  On occasion when the rhythm section can not be filled with Symphonic Band students,   non-band students will be allowed to audition to fill in parts where needed (i.e. bass, guitar, etc)  Performances include Back-to-School Night, Open House, CMEA Jazz Festivals, 0 Period school performances and occasional sets at the Barkin' Dog Grill.
